09) Naruto #55 (1,131,672 copies)
10) Naruto #57 (1,090,567 copies)
Top 10 best-selling manga by series in japan are,
01) One Piece (37,996,373 copies!!!)
02) Naruto (6,874,840 copies)
03) Ao no Exorcist (5,223,712 copies)
04) Fairy Tail (4,701,596 copies)
05) Toriko (4,665,634 copies)
06) Gintama (4,415,491 copies)
07) Bakuman (4,399,938 copies)
08) Bleach (4,187,258 copies)
09) Kimi ni Todoke (4,109,481 copies)
10) Gantz (4,056,981 copies)
another One Piece domination at the charts. nothing to be surprised at anymore.
4 new series have edged into the Top10, Ao no Exorcist, Toriko, Bakuman and Gantz, each helped by their anime or live-action adaptations. am glad to see Bakuman getting into the Top10. the recent manga chapters have been very exciting to read.
looking at the other noticeable manga, it looks like Bleach is on a downward spiral, falling from 5th place last year to 8th placing. you know, this is what a year's worth of worthless filler episodes will do to you.
but Gin-chan is still on the charts! and has even edged up a rank. YAY!!

Taipei loot
i'm back from Taipei. first time experiencing such weather change, from freezing our butts out on the first day, to blazing hot weather on the last day.
photos will be in the next post. for now, my major shopping .
not much in terms of clothes. Wufenpu (五分埔) Wholesale Market has failed to tempt me yet again. i've outgrown the type of clothes found there, though i did bought a couple of dresses while we were out in the night markets. what i didn't expect to buy a lot of, was stockings.
yup. stockings. and socks. lots of it. blame it on the uber cold weather in the beginning of the trip. of course, i also factored in that i need to start preparing for the Europe trip in late September where i would definitely need tons of them.
also bought the usual facial masks, for personal use and to give as presents. my sister thinks i'm mad to lug back so many boxes, but it's by far the easiest gifts for your girlfriends. seriously.
the Animate flagship store was a huge disappointment. was expecting 2-3 floors of anime goodness. it ended up being only one floor on manga, and another basement level on anime merchandise that was somewhat lacking. there wasn't even any nendoroids or figurines in the store.
and finally, the main highlight, manga shopping.
t'was total bliss inside KT comics at Ximending where i filled two baskets in a span of one hour. well, i filled one in 5 minutes, but really, who's counting right?
as expected, aside from the 2 sets of CLAMP's and the Saiyuki manga, i managed to get everything else from the list in my previous post.
other books i got while i was there.
Single Tankoubon
Series
add all of that up, plus the couple of books i grabbed for ah gu, that makes it a total tally of 54 books. although incomparable to ah gu, who lugged the entire One Piece series back from her last trip, it was my biggest buy ever.
at the end of the trip, my luggage was at a staggering 30kg.
all i can say is, thank goodness for group check-in!

Taipei shopping list
as i count down to my third trip to Taipei on Sat, here's a list of manga i've been restraining myself from buying at Kinokuniya since late Jan.
it was a true test of restrain, especially with the two members' sales in Feb and Mar tempting me like mad.
Single Tankoubon
Series
Light Novels
Migawari Hakushaku 替身伯爵 #07-08
Novel
Norwegian Wood 挪威的森林 by Haruki Murakami
if i can find everything on this list, i would be lugging back close to 50 books. but that's still a very big IF, since it would be harder to look for older series like Clover and RG Veda (my two missing CLAMP series).
even now, i'm checking the Tongli website for new releases every day and browsing for potential manga and light novels i might be interested in bringing back from Taipei.
plus, this will be my first time visiting the Animate flagship store at Ximending. while i don't expect them to be as well stocked as the Japan stores, the thought of going through each floor level is exciting nonetheless!
and my sister wonders why i don't wanna share luggage with her.

2010 Top-Selling Manga (cont'd)
Top 10 best-selling manga by series in japan are,
01) One Piece (32,343,809 copies!!!)
02) Naruto (7,409,068 copies)
03) Kimi ni Todoke (6,572,813 copies)
04) Fairy Tail (5,739,526 copies)
05) Bleach (5,204,193 copies)
06) Fullmetal Alchemist (5,165,052 copies)
07) Gintama (3,978,439 copies)
08) Katekyo Hitman Reborn! (3,479,219 copies)
09) Nurarihyon no Mago (3,269,379 copies)
10) Nodame Cantabile (3,246,355 copies)
aside from doubling the figures from last year, One Piece dominates once again. which is totally amazing because from what i understand, in Japan, it's more common for most to read only the JUMP magazines and not buy the tankoubon unless they really want to collect the series.
that's how many people thinks One Piece is worth collecting!
Bleach has been upstaged by Kimi ni Todoke and Fairy Tail. totally predictable since the whole Aizen arc was uber draggy and boring. thank goodness it finally ended! the new arc just started, so it's up to Ichigo "recovering" his shinigami powers to help pull the statistics up for next year.
Nodame is also in Top 10 series. good sales is most likely due to the two movies released this year.
probably why Kimi ni Todoke is doing well too. besides the live-action movie released in September, there was also the anime that ended in late March. i'm so looking forward to season 2 in Winter 2010!

Japanese OLs on One Piece
interesting article from ANN.
Japanese Office Ladies, or OLs for short, were polled on One Piece.
aside from the "which character they want as a boyfriend" and "which character they want to marry", OLs were also asked about who they want as their ideal live-action cast.
i wouldn't mind Mukai Osamu as Sanji, and i definitely can see Oizumi Yo as Usopp! Shingo might be a little too old for Luffy though. heehee.
in any case, i totally agree that there shouldn't be any live-action version in the first place. HA!

One Piece Manga #60
2 million+ in first week alone.
One Piece continues to dominate the market with each book released. i heard from friends that Naruto is getting better, but even then, it has to bow down to the power of Odacchi.

beloved is back
*swoons over*
and he changed his hair parting!! now we all know his eyebrows curl in the same direction. HA!
don't like the mustache-and-goatee thing he has, though i highly doubt Odacchi is going to make him shave it.
check out the rest of the crew here.
they all look fantastically strong now. ^_^.``

Monday, 31 May 2010
why it's a better Monday
2 reasons.
No. 1: Banpresto Grandline Edition, Sanji.
not as great as the POP, but still HOT!
hoping the pre-order will out soon!
No. 2: Shi brothers, from manga chapter 25.
the manga-ka decides to swoon all the fangirls with a role reversal.
Seiran looks HOT in the Emperor clothes, and of course, Ryuuki looks HOT too!

One Piece re-reads
i love re-reading manga.
as i'm quite a fast reader, i tend to not notice much details during the first read-through of any given manga.
so now that there's nothing much to catch up on, since most of the books are being published at near snail-rate, i finally have the time to do a proper re-read of the One Piece manga.
nevermind that i should be concentrating on reading my Sunday School MBA (Make Bible Alive, NOT Master of Business Administration) course literature instead.
i know. i'm a procrastinator and in self-denial.
i promise i'll try to start reading by at least next week. *cross fingers*
anyway, back to One Piece.
currently at vol 6, i'm fully enjoying the intro of Sanji and the Baratie history. and of course after that, comes the first real arc where Mr Arlong will come in.
hmm. maybe i need to supplement with watching the anime at the same time. shall have to think about that.
AND, i've only discovered this from reading the SBS in vol 6.
in terms of drawing, Odaachi is almost always 3 chapters ahead of the current chapter in Shonen JUMP!
that's damn fast!
is that a usual thing or is it the same with the other shonen mangakas?
in any case, i'm very impressed!
go Odacchi!! get the Epic arc over already!
we want back the Strawhats crew!
more importantly,
give me back SANJI!!
----------------------------------
*coughs*
*change of tone*
on another note, i'm going to watch the Nodame film with the Hong sisters tomorrow night. that's provided Miss Ruth don't PS at the last minute.
she better not. i will most definitely scream at her if she does.

One Piece Manga #57
and another record first week sales for Odacchi and Shueisha.
1.69 million copies.
as much as i'm happy about it, the current arc is getting a little out of hand that. so much so that i'm starting to dread it.
and i can't remember if there ever was a time when i wanted an OP arc to be over.
Odacchi need to wrap this up soon.
MOVE ON!

Kimi ni Todoke Film
latest news from ANN is that a live-action film adaptation has been green-lit for Kimi ni Todoke!
i’m excited. but i’m also worried about who is gonna play the characters, especially our two main leads.
so i hope they do a good job. much like how the Lovely Complex movie was.

One Piece Manga #56
remember what i said about the latest volume having a record print of 2.85 million copies?
well, they've already sold close to half the amount (1.36 million) in the first week alone.
sometimes, it's really scary to see how much influence Odacchi is welding.
*shivers*
